Solar-powered cosmetics, making the most of the energy the sun gives us every day

Cosméticos alimentados por energía solar, aprovechando al máximo la energía que el sol nos da cada día

As you already know, here at Twelve Beauty, we are always committed to innovation and sustainability. The year 2019 brought us many changes and opportunities for growth, so much so that for this new year we wanted to take our commitment to the environment a step further, and make our laboratory completely self-sufficient thanks to solar energy.

Now Twelve Beauty is freer and greener than ever.

We believe that sustainability is destined to become the undisputed protagonist of this new decade. More and more of us are becoming aware of environmental care and opting for the use of renewable energy. While the cosmetic industry works against the clock to adapt to new regulatory and consumer demands, our philosophy has always been to meet the highest standards of respect for the environment. The fact that we have installed solar panels in our laboratory for self-consumption and to further protect our planet has filled us with great enthusiasm. Are you familiar with our sustainability strategy? In addition to our energy, both for lighting and for running the laboratory machinery, now coming from solar panels, we also do the following:

  1. The choice of ingredients is based on their low environmental impact, both in their sourcing and in the sustainability of the ingredients themselves. For example, mallow, one of Twelve Beauty's 12 star active ingredients, is a sustainable plant because it grows very quickly with virtually no need for water or care. Or spent grain wax, the epitome of sustainability, an ingredient with great benefits for the skin that is obtained from the residue generated by malt in beer production.
  2. In the laboratory where Pedro and the team develop the formulas, everything is recycled, and soapwort soap is used both to clean the instruments before disinfecting them and for the team themselves. A soap that Pedro makes every two months with the soapwort planted in the studio garden.
  3. Twelve Beauty packaging is easily recyclable as it is made of glass, a material that also protects the formula very well. Plastic is only used if the parts do not exist in other materials.
  4. The packaging is printed on paper that has not been treated with any type of chlorine or bleach, and we always use exclusively vegetable dyes.
  5. Packages are sent in cardboard boxes, and no traditional adhesives are used, only paper with natural glues that are activated with water.
  6. Ingredients that are about to expire or have not passed Twelve Beauty's exhaustive quality control are not thrown away. Pedro uses them in his cosmetic formulation classes that he teaches at the Master's program at the University of Siena, where he is a professor.
  7. Thanks to working with a local recycling company, all packaging returned to our 'studio' is sent for proper recycling.

Being 'green' is difficult and a constant challenge for everyone. Here at Twelve Beauty, we believe that sustainability should be a necessary requirement, and we accept the challenge of becoming increasingly committed to finding green solutions to create a better world for everyone. We are proud to be an active part of the change!
