Sensitive or sensitized skin?

¿Piel sensible o sensibilizada?

Each of our formulas has been created with sensitive skin in mind. The original idea was to create products capable of caring for the most sensitive skin while still providing the desired results.

Exfoliating products and so-called “rejuvenators,” as well as retinol, are increasingly popular among beauty addicts. However, due to this popularity, we have noticed an increase in the number of customers with sensitized skin. But what is the difference between sensitive and sensitized skin? How do you differentiate them? And, more importantly, how do you treat them?

Sensitive or sensitized skin?

Simply put, sensitive skin is naturally reactive skin or skin prone to irritation. Whether inherited or not, it's a lifelong skin condition, even though proper treatment makes it virtually disappear. Some inflammatory conditions like eczema or rosacea fall into the sensitive skin category. Inflammatory conditions like these make the skin more sensitive and reactive to certain ingredients or products.

Sensitized skin, on the other hand, is a temporary state, something new for you and your skin. It is usually caused by certain external factors that lead to a weakened skin barrier, resulting in symptoms similar to those of sensitive skin. When skin becomes sensitized, it usually manifests with itching, burning, stinging, dryness, etc.

Why does skin become sensitized?

Some of the most common triggers are excessive exfoliation with AHAs or BHAs, or overuse of active ingredients like retinol or vitamin C. Other causes include astringent toners, dry climates, winter heating, very hot showers or baths, facial brushes, even rough mitts, etc. Despite this extensive list, it is not my intention to be alarmist. In fact, it is not necessary to avoid all these things at all costs, but it is important to consider how they might influence the health of your skin.

How to treat sensitive or sensitized skin?

The "less is more" approach is often the best way to remedy irritated skin. We recommend repairing and strengthening the skin barrier with a delicate and protective routine. A good starting point using our line would be Purifying Cleansing Beauty Cream for a gentle yet effective daily cleanse, followed by Ideal Moisture Level Serum to hydrate and improve skin elasticity. And to finish the routine, Nutritive Repair Emulsion, an ultra-soothing and nourishing rich cream.
