What is activated charcoal?
Charcoal is a plant-based ingredient derived from plant residues, including fruit peels. The term 'activated' means that it has been treated with steam to increase its absorbency, turning its structure into a kind of porous sponge, capable of engulfing dirt and impurities from the skin. In some cases, it also comes from coconut and/or bamboo, but this only serves to add color, as this charcoal has a very small particle size and cannot be "activated." The rule is, the smaller the size, the more color it imparts.
